Wearing Joseph in Douro41
Douro41 Hotel in Portugal

Hey guys! Long time no blog. I feel like it’s about time I make blogging regular again, what do you think?

My recent trip to Portugal made me want to not only update my website, but also to film a vlog (which you’ll be able to find at the end of this post).

Do you know how they say that you attract what you think and talk about and I guess my interest in the minimal, neutral aesthetics in both fashion and design attracted an invite to visit Douro41 Hotel & Spa. One look at their website and Instagram made me want to dive into its’ stylish surroundings and, to be honest, to feel inspired again.

The London-Porto flight takes just under 2 hours, which makes it such an easy getaway and one that can be so memorable. Sadly, we didn’t get to see Porto at all, but will absolutely come back and stay in the town because I have heard endless praises and recommendations about it. Upon landing we took a 50 minutes car ride along the Douro river and right on it’s 41st kilometre we checked into the Douro41 Hotel & Spa.

Part of the Design Hotels, Douro41 Hotel & Spa is located in the Douro region, famous for its breathtaking landscapes and wine and is perfectly integrated into the natural surroundings of the valley. With 56 rooms, 5 suites, a spa, two panoramic swimming pools, a restaurant and a bar, Douro41 is a perfect place to escape to, refocus, calm your mind and become one with the nature.

We enjoyed the Spa, ate well, took hundreds of pictures, rested from a hectic London lifestyle and made a promise to visit the place again in the summer when we would be able to take the boat out and explore the area while sun is shining. And until then, we have this post to remind us of our great time away.

Thank you for having us!

Fendi bag in Monaco

Oh, what a pleasure it was to be back to Monaco. It was my third visit there and all in a matter of just one year. After attending Monaco Grand-Prix last year and getting the taste of what Monaco was all about, I jumped at the opportunity to visit this beautiful place again with Visit Monaco tourism board. We picked 24-26th of April as our travel dates to be able to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary in Monte-Carlo. And it turned out to be a celebration to remember.

One thing I really wanted to do in Monaco is to explore it more than I’ve done previously. I wanted to visit the museums, walk the narrow streets of the old town, have a go at the slots in the casino and eat great food. So together with the Visit Monaco tourism board we came up with a perfect itinerary for our trip. Below you’ll find a perfectly designed plan of what to do, visit and where to eat in Monaco in 48 hours.

DAY 1.

HOTEL HERMITAGE

The quickest (and most luxurious) way to get to Monaco from London, is to take a flight to Nice and then a helicopter from Nice to Monaco. Because this trip was organised by the Visit Monaco tourism board we were treated to a back and forth helicopter rides and were able to experience most glamorous things that Monte-Carlo has to offer for which I am so grateful.

Upon our arrival, we have checked into one of the most iconic Monaco hotels – Hotel Hermitage – where we would spend the following two night. Hotel Hermitage is exquisite and grandiose. Every corner, every glimpse out of the windows leave you speechless. The place is beautiful, memorable, historic and very chic. The location is in the heart of everything you want to see while in Monaco. The harbour, the Monte-Carlo Casino, the luxurious shopping – are located just a few minutes away.

Monaco Oceanographic Museum

OCEANOGRAPHIC MUSEUM OF MONACO

The first stop on our itinerary was a visit to the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco and previewing its new space created to raise awareness to the protection of the turtles. Set in the most picturesque location possible, this important initiative, led by some great and caring people, will offer a full -service rescue centre for the sea turtles, providing them with all necessary care and help to restore their health before returning to the sea.

So please do pay a visit to this museum and be reminded that our planet needs our help. Be conscious and be kind!

DINNER AT MAYA JAH

We finished our first day in Monaco with dinner at the Maya Jah – an Indian restaurant with a beautiful interior, amazing atmosphere, great location and delicious food. Highly recommended if you love Indian cuisine and want to experience an evening Monaco vibe. It’s a cool place to be in.

DAY 2

VILLA PALOMA – NOUVEAU MUSÉE NATIONAL DE MONACO

Day 2 and we are starting it on a cultural note by visiting Villa Paloma – Monaco National Museum and it’s exhibition by Ettore Spalletti. First of all, you MUST visit Villa Paloma just to see how beautiful it is as well as the views of Monaco that open up from its doorstep. And secondly, the current exhibition by the Italian artist will leave you feeling inspired and positive. Something about those peaceful pastel colours did magic to both me and Patrik. It was a lovely way to start our day.

DISCOVERING MONTE-CARLO

You can never go wrong by just walking around Monte-Carlo and exploring its narrow and hilly streets, luxurious stores, iconic buildings and observing a never-ending ‘parade’ of supercars. Step inside the Monte-Carlo Casino to admire its majestic interior or sit outside with a cup of coffee in the famous Cafe De Paris. Count the yachts in the harbour or walk through one of the beautiful parks. You will never be bored in Monaco.

LUNCH AT HOTEL HERMITAGE

The hotel where we stayed holds one of the best restaurants in Monaco – a Michelin starred ‘Le Vistamar’ where we had our anniversary lunch and swooned over each and every single course. It was refined, delicate, innovative and a total feast to our senses.

DINNER AT TWIGA

On our second night which was also our anniversary night, we headed to a trendy Twiga for dinner. It was amazing! I am a huge fan of Asian and Italian cuisine and this place offers a fusion of both. Sounds unusual to start with sushi, tacos and gyoza and have a tomato basil pasta for the main? Yes, but it works! The atmosphere and the live band were amazing too so try to book a table in Twiga when you visit Monaco.

Each time I leave Monaco I promise myself to come back soon to keep exploring it. I like the vibe, people and beauty that surrounds me there. It’s a break from your everyday life and being there is a treat – one that stays in your memory forever.

My third time in the Maldives. I never thought I’d be able to say something like that. As far as exotic destinations go – the Maldives are at the very top of that list and, for me, to be able to create so many memories there is just out of this world amazing. So, let me tell you about the resort that I stayed in last week. It’s called OZEN BY ATMOSPHERE at MAADHOO and it’s very close to what one might consider a paradise on earth.

water villa interior in Maldives

Surrounded by the signature Maldivian blues of the Indian Ocean, Ozen by Atmosphere resort is located on its own island and offers its guests a choice of water and beach villas, six restaurants, a SPA & Wellness complex and a great assortment of water sports and activities.

I stayed in one of the water villas which has its own pool and a staircase straight into the ocean as well as an over-the-water hammock, sunbathing terrace and the best sunset views. Being able to call this place my ‘home’ for the few days I was there was pretty bonkers if you ask me.

sunset in Maldives

People sometimes ask me whether it can get boring in the Maldives given that there isn’t much to sightsee or even be able to leave the island. My answer is always: ‘Not at all!’. I assume, once you pick Maldives as your holiday destination you are into a chilled, beach holiday rather than a busy city break and that’s exactly what you will get while on the island. A place where great weather is pretty much guaranteed, where the food is amazing and if you want to be active, you can indulge in many different water sports as well as the breathtaking sunset dolphin cruises. And if you really want to explore Maldives, you can do a day trip to one of their local islands to see the hustle and bustle of a traditional Maldivian town.

ACTIVITIES I’VE DONE IN THE OZEN BY ATMOSPHERE:

  • Sunset cycling tour of the island
  • Sunrise yoga on the boat
  • Boat trip to the local island Maafushi
  • Snorkelling boat trip (I don’t snorkel, but had a lovely sunbathing session on the boat while waiting for the others)
  • Lunch in the underwater restaurant
  • Friday gala dinner with live band
  • 1 hour massage in the ELENA SPA
  • Sunset dolphin cruise
  • BBQ beach dinner
  • Cocktail masterclass

Add to that 3 amazing meals a day, an afternoon by the pool with endless Ice Lattes and that’s how your Maldivian days tend to look like. Not too bad, ha?!

Some of the wonderful things I’ve experienced and seen during this trip will forever remain in my memory. I’m talking about seeing dolphins with their babies in their natural habitat, standing in the ocean surrounded by the exotic, colourful fish, dining in an underwater restaurant, seeing manta-rays in the water while walking back to my villa or even having a water check-in upon my arrival to the resort.

Thank you, Ozen by Atmosphere for having me and showing me what a week in paradise should look like. Thank you for taking such great care of me and making me feel so welcomed. And for all of you, guys, planning or considering a trip to Maldives, my main advice is to soak every moment of it in, leave the stress and problems of your daily life behind and feel that air, sun and water, see those stars in the sky and don’t forget to wear a strong SPF!

And if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to ask me in the comments below.

Love,

Mount Lemmon

Here is the third and final part of my Arizona trip diary. After staying at the ranch and driving to Bisbee, we then returned to Tucson to explore the actual city and its area. We wanted to see some museums, exhibitions, vintage shops and to eat as much guac, nachos and tacos as possible. We also planned to take a drive to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and to the top of the Mount Lemmon. Three nights and lots of plans!

Let me show you some of these places.

San Xavier Mission/ Tucson AZ

SAN XAVIER MISSION

Visiting San Xavier Mission in Tucson is an absolute must! Just look how stunning it is! It was founded as a Catholic mission in 1692. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797.

Saguaro National Park

Find out more about Hertz road trips here.

ARIZONA-SONORA DESERT MUSEUM

Visit the desert museum if you want to see all the various cacti in one place along with bobcats, hummingbirds and rattlesnakes. It’s such a beautiful and informative place! Located just west of Tucson, it features two miles of walking paths traversing 21 acres of desert landscape. It’s a park, it’s a zoo, it’s a botanical garden – it’s just wonderful!

Saguaro National Park

LOEWS VENTANA CANYON RESORT

We spent three nights in the luxurious Loews Ventana Canyon Resort located just 30 minutes drive away from the Tucson city centre. It’s a truly magnificent property, the design and grounds of which truly embrace the local landscape.

With it’s 398 luxury guestrooms, including 27 suites, 2 heated pools and jacuzzi, 37,000 square feet of indoor and nearly 40,000 square feet of outdoor space, 2 golf courses, 4 lighted tennis courts with mountain views and the Lakeside Spa,  it is no surprise that it was named in Travel + Leisure’s 2014 list of the Top 50 Hotels for World’s Best Family Travel.

Loews Ventana Canyon Resort

MOUNT LEMMON

And, finally, one of the most stunning destinations in Tucson, Arizona – the mighty Mount Lemmon. It goes up to almost 3,000 m and overlooks the city. It’s breathtaking and must be on everyone’s to-do list.

Mount Lemmon

Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

Our trip was so exciting and memorable. It was my very first time anywhere in the United States besides New York City. The landscapes, nature, some of the food – it was all new to me and it gave me a great taste of how much there is still to explore in the US. I just can’t recommend visiting Tucson enough! It was Patrik who got me so excited about it after his first visit and, now, I hope I can convince you guys to plan a trip there too! You and your Instagram feed won’t regret it!

Bisbee, Arizona
Bisbee, Arizona

Next stop on our trip was a wonderful small town called, Bisbee, located in the Mule Mountains of southeast Arizona. It’s right near the Mexican border and is famous for its copper-mining history. With the population of just 5,000 people, it was so amazing to become part of their tight and friendly community for two nights.

Bisbee, Arizona

Bisbee, Arizona

Stepping into Bisbee was like stepping into a movie set. It’s a very cool and unique place that I, personally, can’t compare to anything else. I could so easily see it having its own TV series, in the style of let’s say, Gilmore Girls, where everyone knows each other and loves their hometown and has a favourite restaurant and saloon to hang out in. We experienced it a little bit while having an evening drink in the smallest bar in Arizona (Room 4). Everyone who came in knew everyone there and seemed to be picking up their conversations from earlier before. What an amazing sense of community!

THINGS TO DO IN BISBEE

  • go on an evening ghost tour around town which is a fun way to walk this unique place and hear some spooky stories about few of the hotels, rooms and streets.
  • have meals in some great places, including Ana’s Seasonal Kitchen, Bisbee’s Table, Contessa’s Cantina and Thuy’s Noodle Shop.
  • visit Lowell street which is so often used in the movies. You will want to take lots of pictures there!
  • go on a mines tour
  • stay in the Letson Loft Hotel, in the heart of Bisbee main street
Bisbee, Arizona

Restaurants in Bisbee are on the highest level. Contessa’s Cantina will offer you a traditional Mexican cuisine while Ana’s Seasonal Kitchen is THE place to have breakfast in. Whether it’s Asian noodles or a heartwarming Italian meal, Bisbee has it all covered.

Visit Discover Bisbee to plan your future trip.

Tucson, arizona

October, 2018

Whenever you feel the need to get inspired, experience and see something new, step out of your comfort zone and make memories that will last forever – go off the beaten track and take a trip to Tucson, Arizona. You will see landscapes that will take your breath away, towns that you’ve only seen in cowboy movies, eat Mexican food like it’s supposed to be and you will want to come back there again and again.

After Patrik’s first visit to Tucson earlier this year, he got obsessed with the idea of taking me there, certain that I was bound to love it as much as he did. He promised unforgettable and very editorial views, cacti at every turn, tacos and guacamole to fulfil my enormous obsession with it and lots of sunshine. And so we took a flight from London to Los Angeles and then flew for just one more hour to Tucson to start our American road trip.

WHITE STALLION RANCH

W Twin Peaks Rd, Tucson, AZ

Our first ‘home’ in Tucson was the White Stallion Ranch. Which is so cool. Because it’s a real ranch, with horses and horse-riding and cowboy hats, boots and denim and not because it’s trendy to wear it this AW18, but because that’s the norm there. BECAUSE IT’S AN ACTUAL RANCH! Well, you got it by now – I loved it there!

The magic there starts with the beautiful sunrise, followed by home-cooked meals, friendly faces and continues throughout the whole day with the endless outdoor activities that even the least ‘outdoorsy’ person wouldn’t be able to resist. Our 3 hours horse riding experience will surely forever stay at the top of my list of places to ride because it was happening amongst the Saguaro cacti (which you can only find in this specific region, nowhere else in the world) and surrounded by the mountains. For such not experienced riders like me, the following two days were a bit painful, to say the least, haha, but it was so so worth it.

OUR RIDE

No American road trip is complete without a powerful car. For this trip, we have teamed up with Hertz UK (who have, by the way, launched a new road trip planner with 24 bespoke and unique routes that take in everything from the tried and tested to the wild and weird).

Dodge Challenger Hertz UK

We spent two nights in the White Stallion Ranch and leaving it was so difficult. We could have easily stayed there for weeks, immersing ourselves into a cowboy lifestyle, made friends and spend all meals planning our future rides together. With over 65% of return customers from all over the world, this cute ranch has managed to create an amazing oasis that is so unique and unforgettable.

Club Marvy, Izmir, Turkey
Club Marvy, Izmir, Turkey

Izmir, Turkey

This was my first ever trip to Turkey and I started it the marvellous way in Club Marvy!

This beautiful resort is located near Izmir, in the bay of the Aegean Sea. It’s a very new resort with an innovative holiday/lifestyle concept making it unique in Turkey. Club Marvy’s motto is ‘Be Marvellous’ and they have put a lot of effort, care and attention to making you feel exactly like that both during your stay and after.

With most of Club Marvy’s produce being home-grown on their own farm (including their own olive oil and wine), as well as their organically made skin care and home accessories (including bath products, sheets, towels and robes) – these kinds of details enhance the experience, give everything a very personal and caring touch and give you a glimpse at where the hotel industry all over the world should be heading.

Club Marvy, Izmir, Turkey

Two pools, two beaches, several restaurants, an amazing SPA and a full-sized aqua park as well as lush nature, magical landscape and friendly people – you are guaranteed to find exactly what your heart and soul desire each day and hour in Club Marvy. Whether you are there for a holistic, well-being focused stay or want to have fun doing water sports, it’s all there for you.

I had the most unforgettable experiences in Club Marvy. It started on our first evening there, during the outdoor dinner at Steak House, when, suddenly, the thunderstorm and rain came, yet we were determined to just wait outside for it to finish, hoping that it won’t force us to relocate inside. We were defeated and running to the dry safety of the mill house a few minutes later. This fun experience and our endless laughter left so many good memories in my head and the views of the almost non-stop lightning over the sea were truly mesmerising.

Then there was the Turkish hammam experience – my first one of a kind. Guys, if you ever have a chance to do this, I highly recommend it. It will make you rethink your usual way of bathing and you will feel like you’ve never been cleaner in your life. Followed by a full body massage, that memory is a bliss!

Oh and then there was the most amazing and huge food buffet with a great choice of dishes. Turkish food is famous for being tasty and healthy. It’s mostly made of grill meats or fish and lots of salads which is my exact flavour palette down to a T. So when I saw that there is a salad making Chef, we became friends very quickly, haha.

Club Marvy, Izmir, Turkey

We were also very lucky to be in Club Marvy for the celebration of Hidirellez – the arrival of Spring. It’s such a pure holiday with beautiful traditions, like writing your wish down and tying it on to a wish (often rose) tree. Then, next morning, before the sunrise, you need to take your wish and send it into the sea for it to come true (we replaced paper with rose petals in Club Marvy). The evening was full of festive food, live music, dancing and lots of positive vibes in the air.

Club Marvy, Izmir, Turkey

Please do let me know if you need more information or have any questions about Club Marvy. You can read more about the resort on their official website.

And I just want to say a massive THANK YOU for hosting us and making our trip so wonderful!

Lots of love x

As promised in my previous post, here are some highlights from our trip to Catalunya. From the delicious meals to fun activities, this is a recipe for one perfect weekend at Hotel Camiral, PGA Catalunya Resort.

EXPLORE

Hotel Camiral’s proximity to Girona makes it very easy to have a fun day trip exploring this beautiful and historical town. It only took us 20 minutes drive to find ourselves in the centre of the old town where we met our guide and embarked on a 2 hours walking tour.  It was pouring down with rain the entire time, however, it didn’t stop us from admiring and climbing all the narrow streets, visiting museums and taking in the panoramic views. Girona is so beautiful and has so much to see that we decided to try and come back there again in the future.

Exploring Girona, Catalunya
Exploring Girona, Catalunya

ABOUT GIRONA

  • Girona was founded by Romans and it still strongly reflects in the architecture
  • Some of the scenes from GAME OF THRONES were filmed in Girona and it’s now full of  TV series fans coming here to see the locations. We saw quite few groups of men following the special route on their tablets and taking pictures, all of it accompanied by the GAME OF THRONES soundtrack.
  • I found my new favourite starter meal in Girona. It’s their famous tomato bread, which is essentially a toasted ciabatta with olive oil, salt and grated (squeezed) fresh tomato on top. We had a lovely lunch in the town and they brought all those ingredients separately for us to make our own tomato bread. And I kept eating it through my entire stay in Catalunya.
  • I found Girona to be very stylish and trendy. There are lots of stunning shops by local designers. They are big on interior design and fashion. Their cafes look very Instagrammable too.
  • Girona isn’t that big in size but is big on good food and has two Michelin star restaurants.

INDULGE

And now, my favourite part of every trip – the food! There are few places to eat, snack and drink in Hotel Camiral, such as The Club House, 1477 restaurant, lounge and pool bar.

The food was fantastic! It looked innovative and modern while maintaining the traditions and flavours of the Catalunya region. We dined at 1477 restaurant and tried both their a la carte and tasting menus paired with the local wines. It was a beautiful culinary experience.

EXERCISE & RELAX

And then there was a tennis session with a coach which I filmed for my vlog that is coming soon, so stay tuned for that. And then there also was a lot of pool chill time, mostly on our last day though as that’s when the clouds cleared and the sun came out. But we did make sure that we don’t waste a single minute and chased every last sun ray that day before heading back to London.

Welcome back, guys! I just love taking you with me on these virtual tours of all my travels, adventures, hotels and locations. With each new one, I am seeing a little bit more of the world and I hope that you are enjoying my little travel tales and making notes for your own future trips.

This time, it’s yet another new location for me – I am in Catalunya! Just an hour drive away from Barcelona, in a spectacular Hotel Camiral, PGA Catalunya Resort.

We stayed there for two nights, and even though the weather wasn’t on our side that weekend (except for the last day), we had a truly great experience and lots of delicious food. I am going to tell you all about the activities that we did and food that we ate (it’s a gourmet heaven) in my next post, but for now, please enjoy the interior design ‘goals’ that is Hotel Camiral.

Hotel Camiral has 145 rooms, each of them overlooking the spectacular Mediterranean landscape. The interior design and aesthetics of the entire hotel and its rooms & suites is so stylish, modern and creative that it becomes an experience in itself. I just couldn’t stop admiring the eye of the designer who found and mixed so many statement pieces in such a harmonious way. Be prepared to take lots and lots of images when you are there, you won’t be able to resist.

  • play golf especially because PGA Catalunya Resort where Hotel Camiral is located is consistently ranked among Europe’s best
  • go on a fishing boat trip or cycle in the greenways
  • play or learn to play tennis

Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi

Ras Al Khaimah, UAE

Welcome to the desert! Welcome to Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi! This stunning resort is located within the sanctuary of Wadi Khadeja and is one the most picturesque location I’ve ever stayed in. Something about being on my own in a gorgeous private villa in the middle of the desert left me speechless and catapulted this resort to the top of my memories list.

Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi

VILLA

My luxurious pool villa looked like something out of an Arabian fairytale. I have never slept in the desert before, surrounded by nothing but sand. It truly is a special and magical feeling to be so immersed in nature, listening to the loud bird songs with an occasional glimpse at a gazelle or an oryx. This was also the biggest villa I’ve ever stayed in, with the nicest bath and dressing area. Oh how I wish I had more time to spend there.

Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi
Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi
Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi

Oh and that pool! Isn’t it just so beautiful to have that blue oasis in the middle of all the sand? I must say, that being in Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi heightened my creativity and made me want to capture this place in a new way. You know that shot of me with the chair in the desert (see below)? This is what I’m talking about. Simple ideas look rather editorial in Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi.

Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi

RESTAURANTS

Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi has two restaurants, Shore House and Kaheela. Shore House offers a wonderful setting with an amazing a la carte menu for guests to choose from while Kaheela is an all-day dining restaurant with a choice of a-la-carte and buffet options. I had a cheeky double portion of tabbouleh and baba ganoush there amongst other things.

Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi

ENTERTAINMENT

And finally, if you want to do something besides eating well and enjoying your villa, Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi offers you some fun activities to choose from. You can go horse or camel riding and enjoy the breathtaking falcon show.

This resort is a definition of luxury and I feel so happy that I had an opportunity to experience it.

Biggest thank you to Ras Al Khaimah tourism board and Ritz-Carlton for having me!
